GIVE A HOOT FOR OWL HABITATS!!!!

Have you ever read Owl Moon?  Or, even gone owling yourself?  Third graders in Mrs. Thrasher's and Mrs. Riggin's classes spent Friday, November 6th studying about these nocturnal creatures.  Students studied the nesting habits, dining choices, and the appearance of many varieties of owls.  The children were exposed to owl anatomy, played food chain games, created habitat posters and were even able to participate in the dissection of an owl pellet for the grand finale!  Everyone agreed it was a real HOOT!

General Class Information

MATH

Please check the math homework every night and please assist with problems that your child does not understand.  If we have a math test, your child will not have any homework on that night.  You will know if we have a test because in the assignment notebook you will see a lesson number followed by a dash and the number 2.

SPELLING

We will have a pretest every Wednesday.  I will always try to grade the test and send it home on Wednesday night in their Saxon folder or in their assignment notebook.  Please help your child study the words they missed.

SCIENCE

One week before a Science test, I will send home a study guide.  The study guide is to help your child study for the test.  Help your child complete the study guide and then help them study it every night.  Looking up the answers is great practice for your child and if you can assist with that process that is great.  Using the book to look up information is a hard skill to practice, but I know that the third graders can master the skill with your help.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Social Studies is hands on and most assignments will be done during class time.

READING

We will have a reading selection test every Friday.  You might want to reread the story of the week with your child on Thursday night.
